Blockchain is being used by new start-ups to give more control to the patient when it comes to personal medical data and where it goes. Currently, the data is sold without any identifying info and with no control or pay back to the patient. This idea is that patients can choose where their info goes and get compensated for it. Blockchain would help protect this data from changes, unwanted access, and easier transport from one system to another.
I personally like the idea of having an amount of control over where my medical data goes, even if I might not currently know enough about where it should go. I also think this could help the patient and their medical team keep better track of the data. As I have had to jump through a few hoops to get info between my medical care teams, I would appreciate something that keeps my data safe and available to the professionals that need it.
