Google has debuted an updated version of its Google Assistant platform during the keynote of its Google I/O developers conference. This is what they are call next generation assistance that will be integrated within the new pixel phones the company has. The improvements that they have made allow the assistant to perform request in real time and a lot of them in a short time. The company says this is primarily due to it condensing the AI models used to interpret speech down to a half a gigabyte, which is small enough for them to process directly on a smartphone instead of requiring remote servers. During a demo last Tuesday they showed the assistant performing many task in rapid succession. You just need to say “Hey Google” and it automatically will pick up what you say after. This application is very similar to apples Siri but this keeps track of your logs and will put together something like top picks for what you what such as recipes, podcast, music, and much more. The most important part is the lets drive mode where you just say “Hey Google lets drive” and it will allow you to ask for directions, resume podcasts or music, and also do whatever you wish it to. It seems similar to Siri but I feel like there taking the extra step needed when it comes to assistant services.
